Tutorial: Lavender Headband With the Double Moss Stitch and i-Cord Edge

VIDEO GUIDE: Learn to knit the Double Moss Stitch and the i-Cord Edge and knit the beautiful Lavender Headband. In this blog post, we show you how!

Dear knitting enthusiast, are you ready to immerse yourself in a cozy challenge for the extra cold days? Today we embark on two techniques that will add extra elegance to your knitting repertoire! The Lavender Headband is knitted with the Double Moss Stitch and an i-Cord edge, which adds a huge WOW factor!

The Double Moss Stitch is a pattern that creates a beautiful, unique, and structured texture reminiscent of small pearls in a row – and the repetitive work is so wonderfully stress-relieving! The i-Cord Edge adds a beautiful and elegant finish to the project.

And the best part? Both techniques are surprisingly simple, so let’s just get started! Are you ready? It’s time to get your yarn and knitting needles 💙

How to Knit the Lavender Headband

The headband is made by knitting back and forth. Each row or line consists of the following parts:

  • An i-Cord edge
  • A middle section with seed stitch
  • An i-Cord edge.

In the following, we explain how to knit an i-Cord edge and the Double Moss Stitch. You can also just watch the video below, where we guide you through knitting this beautiful headband.

How to Knit the i-Cord Edge

The i-Cord Edge is knitted on the first four stitches on each row. Here is how to:

  1. Slip 1 stitch with the yarn in the front.
  2. Knit 1 stitch.
  3. Slip 1 stitch with the yarn in the front.
  4. Knit 1 stitch.

For the last four stitches on the row, repeat steps 1-4.

How to Knit the Double Moss Stitch

Start with an odd number of stitches. In the pattern for the Lavender Headband, there are 17 stitches on each row, which should be knitted in the Double Moss Stitch. It's important to note that these stitches are located between the two i-Cord Edges on each row (see above).

  1. Row 1 (Wrong Side): *1 knit, 1 purl*. Repeat this pattern over 16 stitches in total. Then, knit 1.
  2. Row 2 (Right Side): *1 purl, 1 knit*. Repeat this pattern over 16 stitches in total. Then, purl 1.
  3. Row 3 (Wrong Side): Work as 2nd row.
  4. Row 4 (Right Side): Work as 1st row.

Repeat steps 1-4 until your work reaches the desired length.

Psst! If you'd like to spend some time getting the hang of the Double Moss stitch before diving into the Lavender Headband pattern, you can try out the technique by knitting a dishcloth.

Enjoy knitting your Lavender Headband! We can't wait to see the result 😍
