The Hands Behind @lespetitesmainsdekhuccay
For those new to your universe, can you introduce yourself?
I’m Khuc Cay (my real name is Ngọc Anh, and Khuc Cay is a nickname I’ve had since my teenage years, which later became my designer name), I’m a crochet designer based in France. I was born and raised in Vietnam, and then moved to France to build my life here. I graduated from an economics university, but today I work full time as a crochet designer. I don’t regret this change, crochet is one of my passions and I truly enjoy my work every day. I design and sell my own crochet patterns, I write crochet books, and I also create crochet kits in collaboration with publishers in France. My books have been translated into around ten languages, which is still something that amazes me.
I do have a craft room for photos and writing, but I honestly love crocheting on my bed while watching K-dramas or on the sofa in the sunshine. If you’re a crocheter, you’ll understand me well: my yarn skeins can actually be found everywhere in the house!

Easter Traditions & Family Fun
What do you love most about the Easter season, and do you have any special traditions you look forward to?
I actually only discovered Easter after moving to France! I really started enjoying it after my daughter was born, through her, I feel like I’m living as a child again. We love the colorful decorations, but the most exciting part is definitely the egg hunt. Every year, I make crochet bunny hats and bags for my daughter to use while collecting chocolates, and my husband organizes a garden hunt with maps and clues. It becomes a fun adventure for all of us!
Peek into the Design Process
What is your favorite thing about designing amigurumi patterns?
I love seeing an image from my imagination start in 2D, then slowly turn into a 3D toy that we can really hold in our hands. It’s challenging but also very interesting. Sometimes, just changing increase/decrease stitches to change the shape of each part, or combining colors for having new style or some little embroidery on the face can completely change the emotion of the toy. I enjoy crocheting, but I don’t want to repeat making the same thing over and over. Designing allows me to always create something new.

How did you transition from following patterns to designing your own characters?
I started by following tutorials and patterns, but I honestly didn’t have the patience to stick to them exactly, I always wanted to add my own twist! Since I used to work as an illustrator, it felt very natural to turn my 2D drawings into 3D crochet toys. Now, I simply gather inspiration from everywhere around me and bring together the details I love.
Tips for the Perfect Finish
Do you have any secret tips for crocheters who might be nervous about the finishing steps?
I don’t think I have a secret tip, I just like to keep the faces simple! I use the eyebrows to create different expressions (like straight lines for an angry face) and add soft pink cheeks to make them look 'timide' (shy) and lively.
If you dread the assembly, try to start with positive thinking! I actually love this part because it’s when the toy truly becomes 3D. In my books and on my YouTube channel, I explain the techniques in detail. Trust me, with practice, it gets easier and better over time!
Let’s talk about this collection! Who are the three new friends we are meeting, and what is the story behind them?
These three mini friends feel like little spring spirits to me. They are small, gentle, and a bit magical. They could hide in the garden with chocolate eggs, hang on a dry tree branch in a vase or near the front door to bring joy and good luck, or sit on a dining table, kitchen island, or buffet. I imagine that wherever they are, just seeing them around brings a feeling of peace, warmth, and gratitude.

Designing the Perfect Trio
We love that these are dolls in animal costumes! What inspired this specific look?
I love the idea of tiny 'lucky charms' around the house. The different yarn textures inspired me to design them as baby-faced dolls wearing costumes rather than simple animals. I think the contrast makes them even more charming and feels very harmonious.
Anything else you would like to share?
Thanks Hobbii for having me in this project, and for the beautiful skeins with different textures and colors that gave me so much inspiration to create these mini friends. I’m really looking forward to seeing them come to life on your hooks and hopefully bring you some relaxing moments among more complicated projects. I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did.
