1. What Is the #MoonlightMagicCAL?

It’s a six-part mystery crochet-along (CAL) where the final project is revealed week by week. You won’t know what you’re making until the very end, but we’ll give you hints and help you piece it together one stitch at a time.

The designers behind the magic are Ilaria (@airali_gray) and Irina (@irenestrange). Together, they’ve run seven crochet-alongs under their shared name Amigurumi Adventures – and this time, they’ve conjured up something truly special: a one-of-a-kind Halloween wreath project full of charming textures, 3D amigurumi elements, and a certain furry friend that may or may not be watching you from the shadows. 👀🐾

2. When Does It All Happen?

Mark your calendars and pop some fresh batteries in your neck light – the #MoonlightMagicCAL kicks off on September 3! 🕸️

That’s when we’ll release the first part of the pattern and begin a hauntingly fun journey full of color, texture, and crochet magic. From there, a new piece of the mystery will be revealed every Wednesday. You'll stitch your way through lots of enchanted elements as your Halloween wreath slowly comes to life, just in time for the spookiest night of the year.

4. What’s in the Kit?

We’re keeping the info about the yarns under wraps (you know… mystery and all 👀).

There are limited quantities, one color option, and one size. Everything is picked to match the pattern purrrfectly. 😉

Need to Have

You’ll need two crochet hook sizes and a few accessories that are not included in the kit:

2 mm and 3 mm crochet hook
Measuring tape – maybe this cute, heart-shaped one?
Small scissors
Yarn needle set

Nice to Have

These extras aren’t required, but they’ll definitely make your spooky stitching adventure a bit smoother:

Pins – the kind with big round tops are ideal for assembly
Wire brush – optional, but can be useful for adding texture
Neck light – especially handy for Part 2 when the black yarn enters the scene 👀

Important! Make sure to sign up before September 3 to receive the very first pattern drop. You can still sign up after the CAL has begun, but you will only receive upcoming emails, starting from the next pattern part drop (see the CAL calendar above).

Once the CAL begins, you’ll receive a new pattern part every Wednesday at 10 AM CEST, right in your inbox. 💌 Just open, download, and start stitching!

Prefer to check the site yourself? No problem – the pattern will also be updated weekly on the same CAL page throughout the event.

6. What Skill Level Is Required?

This CAL is an intermediate level project. If you’re comfortable with basic crochet stitches and know how to follow a pattern, you’ll be just fine.

You should already be familiar with:

Working in the round and in rows
Chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet
Increases, decreases, and magic rings
Front/back loop stitches
Sewing pieces together and weaving in ends
Simple embroidery

The pattern is written in US crochet terms, and please note: no crochet charts are included.

Not a total beginner, but still learning? You might still love the challenge – just be ready to take your time and learn a few new tricks. 🧚♀️

7. Do I Need to Make a Gauge Swatch?

Yes – we highly recommend it! Making a gauge swatch is the best way to avoid any spooky surprises that could throw off your project later. Trust us, ghostly tension issues are real... and they will haunt your stitches for a long time to come. 👻

For this CAL, there are actually three small swatches to make. Each one uses a different yarn combination and hook size to help you match the pattern’s intended sizing and shaping. They’re quick to work up and will save you from some truly frightful frogging down the line.
