1. What are your Easter traditions?
โOne of my sweetest childhood memories from Ukraine is celebrating Easter. We didnโt have candies, egg hunts, or big baskets filled with oversized bunnies. Our Easter Sunday morning began with a game called โegg battlesโ or โegg knockingโ. Two kids tap their eggs together, and if one egg cracks, that kid is out of the game or has to give up their egg, or eat it, depending on the family tradition.โ
2. Where is your favorite place to crochet?
โMy favorite place to crochet is in my kitchen. Thereโs a big window that lets in plenty of light, perfect for taking photos of my work.โ
3. Why do you love amigurumi?
โItโs both fun and relaxing for me. I first learned to crochet as a child at school, but I returned to it many years later. Now, I crochet every day and canโt imagine my life without it.โ
4. What is your favorite thing about designing amigurumi patterns?
โI published my first crochet pattern in September 2017. It was a small teddy bear, simple and made with just a single crochet stitch. It was a huge step for me, and also a little scary because designing wasnโt my main focus until I had an idea I really wanted to bring to life. Since then, Iโve created over 130 designs, and Iโve learned so much along the way. I love every part of the design process, from sketching ideas and choosing yarn to the testing phase, receiving feedback, sharing it on social media, and finally releasing it for others to enjoy.โ
5. How would you describe your crochet style?
โIโd describe my crochet style as festive, with a personal touch and a love for creating cozy mini toys. I love creating seasonal ornaments for Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and more. I want my creations to feel specialโwhether theyโre gifts, home decor, or keepsakes. I put a lot of thought into color balance, unique techniques, and adding little touches like embroidery, like flowers, buttons, or leaves. I also love making small, cozy toys that fit perfectly in little hands.โ
6. What are your favorite crochet tools?
โDefinitely my crochet hook and yarn. The right crochet hook is essential. I used to work with a 3.5 mm hook, but over time, I found that a 2.5 mm hook works best for me. As for yarn, I adore working with cotton yarn. This year, I also tried plush yarn, and while I wasnโt sure at first, I absolutely loved the result!โ
7. Can you tell us a bit more about each of the new patterns?
โLet me introduce my newest Easter surprise eggs, which contain cute little toys inside: a bunny, a sheep, and a chick. All of these patterns are beginner-friendly and crocheted with Friends Cotton 8/4 Mercerized.โ
โThe bunny, a symbol of Easter, is a simple crochet project thatโs perfect for beginners. It can be used as home decor, a spring tabletop piece, or a gift for kids. The best part is that you can finish it in just one day! Each part is crocheted separately and then sewn together, requiring only basic crochet skills. I used Friends Cotton 8/4 Mercerized in rose and white for the bunny, lilac and white for the flower decoration, and orange and pistache for the carrot.โ
โThe sheep is another quick, beginner-friendly project. Itโs crocheted from top to bottom as one piece, and the fleece is added to the body using the unused front loops. I chose a variety of cream and white colors for the sheepโs face and body.โ
โThe chick is made with pastel colors that remind me of sunny days and the signs of spring. Itโs crocheted as one piece, from the head to the body, and I worked hard to make the head narrow at the top and gradually round out toward the bottom. The whole design is quick and easy, perfect for a one-part project!โ
8. Finally, what are your top 3 tips for working on these patterns?
โThese Easter surprise eggs are absolutely adorable and so much fun to make! You can crochet a whole flock in different colors to give as gifts or use them to decorate your home.
First, I recommend picking your favorite yarn colors โ it will make the project even more enjoyable.
Next, take your time and enjoy the process; thereโs no rush to finish.
And finally, make the designs your own โ feel free to personalize them however you like!โ
9. What advice would you give to new crocheters?
โCrochet is a journey, and each stitch you make helps you improve. Be patient with yourself, and keep practicing. Nowโs the perfect time to grab your hook and yarn, and create your own Easter surprise eggs!โ
