Magic Loop

Magic Loop

Does knitting with double-pointed needles feel a little scary to you? Then the Magic Loop technique is the perfect technique for you!

The Magic Loop is a super simple technique that lets you work with circular needles - regardless of how few stitches you have on your needles. You can use this technique even if you don’t have enough stitches to fill the wire, and it’s particularly practical when knitting things like sleeves, hats, and socks.

Magic Loop: How to

  1. Cast on the required number of stitches. Make sure to use a circular needle with a long wire.
  2. Push all the stitches into the middle of the wire and split them into two groups containing roughly the same number of stitches.
  3. Now, take one group of stitches and move them toward the tip of the left needle while leaving the second group of stitches in the middle of the wire.
  4. Now work the stitches from the left needle onto your right needle.
  5. Move the remaining unworked stitches to the left needle by pushing the stitches up the wire toward the tip.
  6. Move the stitches from the right needle down the wire (the ones you just worked) and move the unworked stitches onto the left needle (you need to work these now).
  7. Work the stitches on the left needle again.
  8. Repeat this process until you have the required number of stitches.

Sound difficult? Watch the video above, where we illustrate the Magic Loop Technique. And remember, practice makes perfect <3

Important! When using the Magic Loop technique, your stitches may twist a little at the beginning, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your stitches and make sure that they’re all facing the right way.
