Double Crochet Stitch (dc) (US)

Double Crochet Stitch (dc) (US)

The double crochet stitch is one of the most basic crochet techniques out there. We will guide you through this simple stitch with photos and video tutorials.

Video tip! Click on “Settings” (the small gear under the video ⚙) to change the language of the subtexts. You can also adjust the speed of the video if you need to rewatch the technique at a slower pace.

The double crochet stitch makes your project flexible and gives it a nice structure, which is why this technique is so widely used in all kinds of projects - from sweaters and blankets to hats and bags.

Luckily, the double crochet is an easy stitch to master since it’s basically just a single crochet with a couple of extra steps.

Double Crochet or Treble Crochet? In this blog post, we refer to the US term ‘Double Crochet’ (dc). However, the same technique goes by the term ‘Treble Crochet’ (tr) in the UK.

How to do a double crochet

  1. Yarn over.
  2. Insert the hook into the first stitch from your hook.
  3. Yarn over and pull the loop through the stitch.
  4. You should now have three loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over and pull the yarn through two of the loops on your hook. You should now have two loops on your hook.
  6. Yarn over again and pull the yarn through the two last loops on your hook. You should now have one loop on your hook.

Yay! You just did your first double crochet!
